Handover Inspection

One of the most important aspects of building a new home is to make sure that the finished product meets the required industry standards and expectations. It is a large investment that needs to be able to stand the test of time. A Handover inspection can provide the peace of mind of having an independent expert provide a detail defects list for your builder to complete as a part of their contractual obligations. Most new homeowners are unaware of the ‘added’ costs associated with building a home.

It is a contractual right to have an inspection carried out at Practical Completion and insist that the builder complete any items that are their responsibility within a timely manner. Although this may be an additional ‘added’ cost for only a small fraction of the contract price, most new homeowners greatly benefit from engaging in a professional and independent building inspector during the construction and especially at practical completion.

‘why do I need an inspection when the builders and tradesman should know what they are doing?

‘my new home looks great, the paint is fresh, the carpet is new… what can go wrong in my new home?

‘doesn’t my builder know what problems to fix?’ ‘I have a good eye for detail, I can’t see any issues…’

‘I have just had my house built and it cost me a fortune! I don’t need another expense…’

Handover Inspections

There is sometimes an assumption that all builders and tradesman are overseen by professional certifiers and or local council regulators, although this may be correct to some degree. In actual fact they are not on site to inspect the quality of workmanship or incomplete works but only to certify certain aspects of the constructions.

Many of the issues that Building Inspectors are faced with are not necessarily code violations but are a wide range of defects. Some defects can be Patent (Design related) or Latent (Not yet apparent) and if advised of can save costly repair in the future. DTS Building Inspectors are fully qualified, insured and mostly importantly very experienced in a wide variety of aspects in the Building and Construction Industry. We know what to LOOK for!
